For years people have been telling me I should do a podcast about what is means to be an “Everyday Tourist.” Others have suggested I should do one on being a “flaneur.” So, when my neighbour, introduced me to her friend and colleague David De Silva (a podcast, video producer) at the premier of her documentary “Lii Michif Niiyanaa: We are Metis,” in November 2025 the seed was planted.

It took six months for David and I to reconnect, but once we did, things happened quickly. He booked us a studio at  ZRM Studios just off Barlow Trail in northeast Calgary and before I knew it, he was interviewing me.

I was amazed by the questions Daved asked and how in-depth he had researched my website to fully understand my approach to being an “everyday tourist” in Calgary and beyond. We spent 60+ minutes casually chatting before the studio owner nicely told us our time was up.

Think Netflix show “My next guest needs no introduction with David Letterman.” Except in this case, “My next guest needs a BIG introduction.”

Editing Virtuoso!

It took a few weeks for David to edit the video and audio (as he has a day job), but it was worth the wait in my opinion. He delivered a draft and I was very pleased with the result. I really hate my voice and not really thrilled by how I look on TV, but there is only so much you can do. After watching it a few times, I was impressed by how much it resembled David Letterman’s popular Netflix show.

The podcast successfully captures my approach to being an “everyday tourist,” as well as thoughts about “urban living” and flaneuring various cities.

I also loved how David pulled clips from the podcast to create snappy short teasers for the last month. One of the goals of the podcast was to appeal to a younger audience, which meant being more eccentric, more off-the-cuff than I usually am. I was definitely out of my comfort zone.

YouTube No Fun!

Trying to post the podcast onto my YouTube Channel(s) was no fun. Back in 2010 I experimented with creating a YouTube Channel, because someone said I should have a YouTube Channel. I didn’t know anyone can create their own channel on YouTube and post their videos - so, I thought I’d give it a try. But like many things, I played around with it for awhile and then kinda dropped it. Then in 2020, I tried again, but because I’d forgotten how to load video on the old channel, I created a new one. Turns out I created another channel in 2021.

So, when it came time for David to update my YouTube Channel with the podcast it was complicated as they were linked to Gmail account that I have never used and of course I had forgotten the password. Long story short, David had to spend hours on work arounds to update my EverydayTouristYYC channel mess.

David has a LOT of patience and preservice. He was determined to make it work - I would have given up after the first hour and created another new one. Now the channel has 80+ short clips of me flaneuring and one podcast.
