Breathtaking firework displays light up the sky across Edmonton this Canada Day
Canada Day is one of the country’s most anticipated holidays. In many places, celebrations take place during the week preceding the day in addition to the day itself. Edmonton is no exception! The provincial capital of the province of Alberta put on a breathtaking array of fireworks on July 1.
Where could you catch the big show, and what did viewers do to pass the time between firework sets? Let’s take a closer look at Canada Day in Edmonton!
When did the festivities begin?
Edmonton showed up in style to celebrate the holiday with a variety of firework displays across the capital. The main show took place in Kinsmen Park, soaring above the central river valley. There was no access to the park from 9:45pm to 30 minutes post-show, however, to give professionals the chance to conduct the show safely. The good news is that there were plenty of locales with excellent views. Other locations in the city offered smaller shows.
From the central river valley to Queen Elizabeth Park and Hill, Victoria Park, Lede Park and Sherwood Park, most people were able to find a show near them. All of the shows, regardless of the exact location, began at 11:00pm MT, typically capping off a long day of celebrations at each viewing site.
Are you wondering what the show was like and how people watched from each location? We’ll discuss the experience in depth below.
Ways to watch the fireworks
As we mentioned above, there were a few different ways to watch fireworks in Edmonton this Canada Day, and not all of them were outside. From the different shows to the different ways to view them, let’s take a look at how Canadians celebrated Canada Day 2025.
Livestream
The ‘main’ fireworks show in Edmonton took place over the central river valley. The show was livestreamed by CBC Edmonton, allowing even residents who couldn’t leave their homes to have a prime viewing experience. The entire set took place over about 20 minutes and was streamed on, among other locations, CBC News’ YouTube page.
Thanks to the ease of access that this stream provided viewers, many residents found themselves celebrating the end of the day online, taking advantage of last-minute sales and promotions before tuning into the big show. Gaming was a big part of this year’s celebration for many, with people gathering both in person and virtually to enjoy the day. Online slot games themed after the holiday were especially popular this year.
Queen Elizabeth Park and Hill
Queen Elizabeth Park and Hill offered residents a perfect viewing location for the central river valley fireworks show mentioned above. Many of them spent the majority of the day at the park, in fact, thanks to the wealth of family-friendly activities on offer in the area. From barbecues to arts and crafts and everything in between, there was something for just about everyone at Queen Elizabeth Park and Hill. And, of course, the fireworks viewing experience was perfect. You could easily see the fireworks above the trees – no obstructed views here!
Broadmoor Lake Park
Broadmoor Lake Park hosted its own fireworks show this year! The Northern Lights Fiber Fireworks show kicked off at 11:00pm with clear skies and incredible views. While the show might not have been quite as well-known as the central river valley show, it was beautiful all the same, and, at times, had even more vibrant displays. Similar to the Queen Elizabeth Park and Hill viewing location, Broadmoor Lake Park held a wide variety of festivities, ranging from live music to swimming events all day long for residents to enjoy.
Lede Park
Another prime location to view fireworks this Canada Day was Lede Park. Visitors could enjoy the daylight hours with face painting, food trucks, a petting zoo and an outdoor concert. The celebrations began at 8:30am and ran until after the fireworks show. Lede Park offered a rousing day full of patriotic cheer for people of all ages!
There you have it! From YouTube to Broadmoor Lake and everything in between, this year’s Canada Day festivities had something for everyone. Keep these venues and firework displays in mind for next year!
