Redwood Meadows AB: Surreal Reflections

For me springtime not only marks the beginning the golf season, but also a renewed appreciation for the beauty of nature. It is well known that walking in nature is good for your mental health and that golf is not. So I by combining the two my mental health stays about the same.

Link: Sour mood? Get back to nature!

While playing golf, I am just as likely to be in the bush looking for photo opportunities and as looking for my ball. Slow play! No problem! More time to look for a new photo opportunity.

Taking photos while golfing also satisfies another interests of my - being creative. I love to enhance the photos by manipulating the contrast, shadows and colour to convert them into surreal images.

I hope you will enjoy my “Surreal Reflections” exhibition.

Last Word

While technically not flaneuring, I do feel walking the golf course has many similarities to flaneuring urban spaces - you always discover something new.

Recently a friend called me a “miksanger” which is a Tibetan word meaning “good eye.” The art of Miksang was begun as a meditational tool by Shambhala Buddhists. The idea is to find joy and awareness by attending to the minor and seemingly insignificant — the colours, patterns and textures that exist in the close-up world.

What a great compliment! Unfortunately he didn’t have a similar compliment for my golf game.
