Calgary: Off The Beaten Path Photo Fun

Calgary’s “Exposure Photography Festival” takes place this year from February 2 to March 3, 2024. It is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Contemporary Calgary gallery is hosting several major shows, from an “International Open Call” to “Emerging Photographers Showcase,” as well as an incubator program. The popular “Exposure Fence” (a huge temporary fence lined with photographs) will by at Olympic Plaza this year. Also look for billboards across the city with photographs thanks to Pattison. There are also photography exhibits at private galleries and exhibition spaces across the city.

I thought it would be fun for me to curate a blog of some of my 2023 photographs in the spirit of “Exposure.” I chose the theme “Calgary: Off The Beaten Path” to show that I do flaneur outside of Calgary’s City Centre. After reviewing over 5,000 photos I narrowed it down to 63 and from that I have picked 12. One for each month of the year, but not necessarily representing one per month. I chose images that evoked an immediate sense of being off the beaten path, with the second criteria being a quirky sense of humour.
